Book Week is an exciting event in any school year, where book characters come alive, stories are shared, and a spotlight is shone upon the importance and fun of reading. This year’s Book Week at PVS began with a singing and dancing Perform Education incursion of ‘The Greatest Discovery’. Just as every book is an exciting discovery and tells a new story, this performance complemented the Book Week theme for 2020, ‘Curious Creatures, Wild Minds’. There was certainly a curious mix of creatures on display on dress-up day, with students from all years parading a variety of costumes and characters. The week continued with the Book Fair and a wide selection of books on offer for students to choose from, catering to different reading levels and interests. It was difficult for some children, and parents, to choose from the variety of craft books, recipe books, non-fiction encyclopaedias, picture books, early readers and novels! The creativity involved in storytelling was nurtured as students were encouraged to use their imaginations and invent their own kind of hatchlings when some unusual coloured eggs were found sitting in an unusual nest in the Book Fair room. Book Week coincided with Outdoor Day this term, which provided further opportunity for discovery and exploration, of the outdoor kind, while an Afternoon on the Green rounded off a busy and exciting week.
