Excellence in education
Specialist Classes
In addition to the core curriculum, Pioneer Village School provides specialist learning programs in the areas of The Arts, Language, and Sport. We also support students in their learning through targeted education support, and gifted and talented programs.
Through our sports program, students are provided with positive, challenging lessons that promote health, wellness and physical activity. Students are exposed to a variety of different sports, games and equipment, and lessons are structured in a way that students feel safe to take a chance. Sport lessons are more than skill acquisition, they are also about building positive relationships through participation, and developing interpersonal and intrapersonal skills that students can use in a variety of settings.
The Arts is an important part of our curriculum and encompasses dance, drama, visual arts and music. Specialist music lessons provide opportunities for students to develop creative passions as well as develop communication, language and leadership skills. Participation in performing arts enables students to build self-esteem and confidence by allowing opportunities to perform on stage and in front of each other. Visual arts is taught in the classroom and students explore a range of techniques to create artwork.
Learning a language enables our students to both explore a new culture, and to become more aware of one’s place as a world citizen. Dealing with another culture enables students to gain a more profound understanding of their own culture, and also promotes respect of cultural differences. Foreign language study can open a world of future job opportunities and cross-cultural friendships.
